How smart are animals?

The story begins with this radio show clip:

• The radio program brought her back and convinced her that she was wrong! Please Move Deer Crossing Part 2!!!
• google: lion paw myth ... maybe it's based on a real incident!

The assumption by the radio host is that this lady is foolish, but then ... we have

• elephant painting (google)
  Partially debunked ... Snopes For example, you can see the trainer guiding the elephant at Thai Elephant Painting (girLINtranslation)
• and the recent raven with quills asking for help (at wimp) (google)
• not to mention the crow skiing !!!!! (google)

The radio host said: "You seem to be under the misunderstanding that the deer are somehow attracted to the the deer crossing sign." Exactly. Maybe they are actually smart. May the lady and the deer are smart and the radio program host is ignorant (like most of us). Time for someone to do some experiments!!
