xoped Creationist Phillip E. Johnson: A Question of Kinds

Phillip Johnson spoke on 1999 September 19th at 7PM at the Capital Hill Baptist Church in Washington DC, (202-543-6111, 525 A St, NE, Washington, DC 20002, www.capitolhillbaptist.org). "What the Evolution Controversy is Really About".

After his talk I asked him a question. Suppose I have two different organisms and I get some DNA sequence from both. The sequences are 98% identical. Are they the same "kind"? How can one tell two species apart by their DNA?

He recognized immediately that I might be thinking about human and ape DNA. His response was that more research was needed.

Clearly he was avoiding the question because he could not answer it without getting into trouble.

DNA sequencing has unveiled over 900 complete genomes that are now available to test these ideas! The data are now revealing the close relationships between species, but I have not seen any analysis reports from creationists. There is no evidence for "kinds" that stay within the boxes that the creationist advocate. Their thesis of the separate creation of species is crumbling.

But it is only fair to allow the creationists to answer the question themselves. I therefore wrote to Johnson.

Email conversation between Thomas D. Schneider and Phillip E. Johnson

So far, Johnson has been entirely evasive.
