Abstracts
Frederick Cellars in downtown Frederick is proud to
host an exhibit called 'Abstracts' consisting of works by two regional
artists James W Germaux and Craig Leonardi, both members of The
Artist Gallery in Frederick, MD, May 5th - June
30th.
James W Germaux also a trained printmaker and
sculptor, paints in an expressive, free, organic style with emphasis on elegant
line and vibrant color. Germaux's work examines our relationships with our
environment and captivates the many moods of the human psyche. The artist
counts Richard Diebenkorn and Henri Matisse as his most profound
influences.
Craig Leonardi's abstractions are closely cropped
renderings, often of mundane, but familiar objects. His work, more conceptual
than expressive, is comprised of acrylic renderings mounted on non-traditional
sculptural framing devices. The pieces focus on the textures of industrial
growth and decay - from heavy construction equipment, concrete, and steel, to
rusty scrap metal and waste disposal units.
The opening reception is Saturday
May 5th, 5 - 9pm, at Frederick Cellars 221 N. East Street,
Frederick, MD 301-668-0311. The event corresponds with the Downtown Frederick
Partnership's First Saturday Gallery Walk. |
