This past July Rexy added another exotic destination to his long list of
travels, the wild, wild, west... Oklahoma! The ultimate destination
was his uncle Ken's house, in Ponca City Oklahoma. On the way he
would travel through the wild mountains of West Virginia, the bluegrass
farmlands of Kentucky, the picturesque countryside of Missouri, and finally
Oklahoma. The first stop on the trek was at the
Rose Manor Bed and Breakfast in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, where he met
his first new friend, Mr.
Snoopy, the proprietor of this fine establishment. After a restful
night and hearty breakfast, where Rexy indulged himself with several sausage
links, it was off to explore part of the longest system of caves in the
world, Mammoth
Cave! After a bit of spelunking in the caves, it was back to
the car and off through the Land between the Lakes. The next stop
was a major landmark for Rexy, his first steps west of the mighty Mississippi
River. To prepare for this monumental undertaking, Rexy stopped to
stretch his legs
at the Fort Defiance State Park, located at the confluence of the Mississippi
and Ohio Rivers. Now that he had crossed the Mississippi, there was
no stopping him. The next stop was at the Hidden Cove Resort in Shell
Knob, Missouri.
The next morning it was up and off to his final destination, Ponca City, Oklahoma,
where he met his next new friends, Rowdy
and Seagram, the local goof balls! Rexy
enjoyed playing with Rowdy, the younger of the two, since Seagram was
too distinguished to carry on like that. A trip to Marland Mansion,
a local landmark, revealed some interesting
architectural details. One of the many highlights of Rexy's trip
was his day at Kaw Lake, where he romped
through the water with his uncle Ken, and romped
some more.
Rexy ended up his adventure with one last swim
into the sunset on Kaw Lake. Another great adventure!
