Pigs Are Not Dogs
Mark Twain? Ben Franklin?, "a dog looks up to you; cat looks down to you;
a pig looks you right in the eye."
They are not as independent as cats, more independent than dogs.
They, by nature, are herd creatures; in absence of a herd of pigs, they
will attempt to "herd" with you/your family.
They are not quite as affectionate as a dog. They love to be scratched or
rubbed, especially their bellies. They will snuggle up on you lap.
They will "herd" with you around the house, more so as feeding time
approaches!

(Though on cold nights dogs and pigs can get pretty chummy. Also they seem
to form a symbiotic retationship with cats: the cats love to rub up against
the pig's fur/hide, the pig thinks its getting a petting/tummie-rub :)
In general they go their separate ways.
Negative reinforcement usually will not work, and may adventually lead to
an agressive pig - they'll see it as an attempt to establish dominance
in the herd.
They respond very well to positive reinforcement - FOOD (they are PIGS
after all!). They could care less about praise, like a dog.
Pretty much docile and layed back.
