History of A*starz Keeshonden

Hello !
Here is some information about A*starz & our dogs:

We are not big-time breeders and only have about one litter every other year at most. We do not keep many dogs, now we currently have five(3 kees + 2 poms). We believe dogs are so deserving of love, attention and proper care, that we will not keep more than we can reasonably care for. We do place our older dogs or retired show dogs with loving and well-fitting homes for them if/when it does become available, otherwise they stay with us. We must place our "retired" stars if we are going to continue to raise Kees the way we think they should be raised. Some people can't part with their pets, but we see this as a necessary thing to do because we cannot properly care for a "backyard full" and don't intend to try. You may find folks that have as many as 20 to 30 Keeshonden. Even as a full-time job, we cannot see how those are really cared for and properly socialized. Can you ?

We try to screen puppy buyers as carefully as we can. We care so much about the Breed, that we guard each pup we produce. This is as it should be! We, along with other, reputable Kees folk are stingy with our beloved breed because we know what havoc popularity can rake. If you consider the problems of Poodles, German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniels and other breeds whose popularity has been phenomenal over the years, we do not wish our Keeshonds to go in that direction. The more popular a breed is, the more folks will want to get the breed, and the more $$$ can be generated by those who sell a breed short and cut corners on care, testing and the well being of a breed.

We do not breed to who ever is convenient. It would be rare to find the best mate in your backyard. We try to choose who, in the country, would be the best matched pair for any litter we are thinking of doing. Since we are in contact with Kees people from all over the country and travel to shows, we get exposure to many dogs. From our kennel, we have produced about 20 +champion homebred kees. Several of these have gone onto significant titles in the breed, such as Hall of Fame (HOF), Select Award Winners and Specialty Best of Opposites as well as Specialty Sweepstakes winners. From our dogs, other kennels and individuals have been building their own show and breeding program with success in their programs, which have their foundation on our dogs. We have our foundation based upon our combinations of successful blending of the Windrift, Jee Jac, Sherwood, Candray and YanKee pedigree lines.

Between the age of 7 and 8 weeks, we temperament test our puppies using a series of tests developed by dog psychologists [PAT - Puppy Aptitude Test]. These tests help us determine further, the personality traits of an individual puppy. Our puppies are raised in our home and we are in touch with them on a daily basis. The temperament test is an aid to attempt to determine the adult personality of a puppy. This includes such things as trainability, sensitivity, outgoing attitude, obedience potential, shyness and stubbornness. We "grade" our litters when they are about 8-10 weeks of age to determine which pups are show and which are pet quality. Sometimes, pet quality can be determined earlier in a pup. If the ears appear big, the teeth don't meet in a scissors bite, the tail does not curl very tightly over the back or the feet have more black on them than desired for the show ring. All these things may determine a puppy is pet quality. To a breeder or a person interested in showing, the puppy must show the potential to mature close to the AKC Breed Standard. The Standard is the blueprint of a perfect Kees. It can be found in the "Complete Keeshond" by Cash [which is the best book on the breed out to date] or in the AKC books.

Any litter we have is planned for good temperaments, great type, and sound structures. We wouldn't have an individual litter if I did not think the puppies would be really nice. At A*starz, our goals are a cute, intelligent, and very pleasing looking Kees that conforms to the AKC Breed Standard, and one that is structurally & temperamentally sound. The head type we strive for is the "teddy bear" look, although we do sometimes have a foxy head type or two in a litter. Most all our puppies and adults have that very clear silver undercoat which is hard to come by in many of today's keeshonden. We generally obtain dramatic, striking contrast in the body coats. Although we do strive for light to medium colored kees as a matter of our personal preference, we do have a couple of puppies in each litter that may go darker. We have been achieving "our look" and our goals in the last few litters and intend to improve upon it as we fine tune over the years to come. We keep an extensive (about 100 tapes to date) video tape collection of my own puppies as they develop and others from across the country so I can monitor and learn more about my dogs and others.

You might say, "well, I'm only interested in a pet", but even a pet quality kees should look like a kees and be structurally and temperamentally sound. If the stock a puppy comes from is from questionable sources or has been raised with poor nutrition or lack of human contact, then that puppy is lacking in quality from the very beginning. Puppies from backyard breeders or pet shops are from questionable backgrounds and very likely the sire and dam have had no testing for genetic problems. Even if a dog has "AKC papers" this does not ensure quality. All it means is that the puppy is the product of two "pure" kees, nothing else. Period. AKC does not ensure that the sire and dam look like Kees. They don't ensure the temperaments are good either. They don't ensure the sire and dam have been tested for hip dysplasia, slipping kneecaps or any other problems known in Kees. AKC is simply a registry service and NOTHING ELSE.

When we receive a request for a show/breeding quality puppy, we find that most show folks are looking for specific things in a puppy. We do try to pick puppies based upon what someone is looking for, although at a young age it is a guess. Besides structure and correct proportions, carriage, attitude and presence are major factors in determining show quality. When I receive a request for a pet quality puppy, wematch as closely as possible, the temperament of a puppy with the home.

Because we are responsible breeders with a serious interest in the breed and welfare of all our puppies, our males are not at stud to pet quality bitches. When we plan a litter, we plan to keep one for ourselves. If there are some with small flaws, etc, they are sold as pets with spay/neutering required. All our dogs are sold under contracts to protect their future.

We have had a limited number of litters in around 20 years and keep track of the puppy buyers and have maintained contact with them to be sure the Kees we are responsible for are being well cared for and loved. For some, this contact is once a year, while for others that are getting through the trials and tribulations of new dog or puppy ownership, the contact is much more frequent. I am available for any grooming, socialization, nutrition, etc questions puppy buyers of mine have. This is an ongoing relationship. When you get a puppy from me, you become part of our family of Kees lovers. [See A*starz Dogs Info Pages for photos and particulars about our dogs.]

We used to publish a quarterly newsletter to all owners of our dogs entitled "A*starz Keeping In Touch".

ABOUT A*STARZ . . . :

NOTE: Keep in mind, when reading the section below, that it may sound boastful to you. We have been dedicating many years and dollars to the improvement of the keeshond breed. As a result, we have experienced a good deal of success with doing things what we term "the right way". So, we are not boastful, but merely doing our best to raise very nice Kees without contaminating the beautiful breed they are.

We have had some of the top female Kees in the country since 1986. A National Specialty is held each year by the Keeshond Club of America (KCA). This show is a three day event, usually Memorial Day weekend, although it has been in April upon occasion. It is held in a different part of the country each year and attracts anywhere from 200-300 Keeshonds. In 1992 it was in southern CA, in 1993 it was in Dallas TX and in 1994 it was in OH. Our males started to make their impact in the Kees world in 1989.

"Lexy" (American/Canadian Ch. Markwright's Promiscuous, ROMX [Register of Merit Excellent]), is our foundation bitch. She was the 1986 Reserve Winners Bitch at KCA (held in San Jose CA) and was a top contender the whole weekend of the Nationals in 1986 at the tender age of 9 months. She completed her American Championship at 12 months of age. Lexy was also the 1986 Buckeye Keeshond Specialty Best In Sweepstakes winner. She garnered one of the 12 Keeshond Club of America's Select Awards in 1988 (held in Phoenix AZ). Lexy was used as the example of a Kees female by the AKC on their breed video tape of the Keeshond. "Lexy" is well known by serious kees folks around the country. On top of all that, she is a very sweet girl and a good companion dog. She loves to sit on pillows on the bed or lay curled in a chair. Lexy hates to be left behind when the van is being loaded for a show and will voice her opinion about it. "Lexy" was bred four times and met the requirements in 1/93 for her Register of Merit title from KCA for having produced 7 or more champion kids. She met the requirements for in 1/94 for her Register of Merit Excellent title. Her first litter produced 4 out of 5 champions, whelped in 9/87 (sire: Ch. Sherwood Solomon). The second litter, whelped 7/89, has 3 American champions, one States Kennel Club (SKC) champion with 2 others on their way to their championships. The third litter, whelped 6/91 had 7 pups (6 bitches and 1 dog) and all of them are doing great, pet and show pups, with 3 girls that completed their Championships in 1/93, the male needs a major and another is ready to compete for her Companion Dog obedience title. A daughter from this litter, Delilah, is ranked as #2 Keeshond Show Bitch in the country - 1994; final statistics. The fourth, and last litter, was whelped 5/92. One of them, the only bitch in the litter, was Best of Opposite Sex at the Buckeye Kees Club Specialty supported Sweeps on 12/14/92. Two are finished, "Kato" Ch. A*starz Commando and "SmoKee" Ch. A*starz Conan, 1998 KCA Select Award Winner. Lexy is now retired from the whelping box and is shown at Kees Specialties in the Veteran's class winning in 1993, both the KCDV [Kees Club of Delaware Valley] & BKC [Buckeye Kees Club] Specialties Veteran Bitch classes. She will be out & about in the veteran rings as long as she is able to enjoy it.

Lexy's son, "Stuff" (BIS Am/Can/SKC Ch. A*starz Right Stuff for Copykee HOF & CHOF [American and Canadian Hall of Fame], ROM, NA has a phenominal career record. This was all achieved by his owner/handlers: Cherrie & John Treber. "Stuff" was the Kal-Kan Pedigree's #1 Keeshond for 1990 (award is based upon total number of Keeshonds defeated) and was the 1988 Buckeye Kees Club Best in Sweepstakes. He finished his American Championship at 9 months of age and quickly followed up with his Canadian Championship. Stuff completed his Hall of Fame (HOF) title in April 1991 with all but a few of the wins with his owner/handlers. He was awarded a "Select Award" at the 1991 KCA National Specialty held in Oklahoma City OK. He was also KCA's Top Show Dog for 1990. He just got his first Best In Show win in 6/93. "Stuff" has been producing some lovely puppies which are starting to make their own positive impact in the kees world. He has a daughter, bred by Donna Staton & Cherrie/John Treber, "Allie" [Am/Can Ch. Ashwood's CopyKee Alliance], who now holds the record as top show winning Kees bitch in the history of the Breed. She completed her Hall Of Fame title in summer of 1992 and this same bitch has two Best In Show wins (one 10/92 & one in 2/93; which is a very notable feat for bitches. She won the Keeshond Club of American National Specialty in Ohio 5/94, going Best of Breed. "Allie" is now the top winning bitch in the history of the keeshond breed. The demand for Stuff's look & and wonderful temperament has had him courting ladies from different parts of the country, and so, his puppies can be found around the country. Stuff may well be the first Keeshond in history to achieve dual Hall Of Fame titles, American and Canadian.

"Jenna", who is Stuff's sister; a Lexy daughter, was one of our top bitches during her prime. She is retired now & lives with my parents in Ohio. Both Stuff and Jenna have Canadian Best Puppy In Show wins. Another brother, "Justin" (BISS Ch. A*starz Special Effect, ROM) was owner/handled to his Championship by his 19 year old owner, Kathy Barker. "Bob", Ch. A*starz Twilight Zone finished in spring of 1990 also with a Reserve Winners win at the Northern California Keeshond Club Specialty.

"Jenna" (American/Canadian Champion BOSw A*starz Close Encounters), was the 1988 Kees Club of Delaware Valley's Best of Opposite in Sweepstakes and she was the 1989 Best of Opposite at the Kees Club of Delaware Valley's Specialty held with the Keeshond Club of America National in Wilmington DE over all the other bitch specials, herself only 19 months of age. She did that in the pouring rain and never let up ! Jenna finished #7 Keeshond show bitch in the country in 1989. Needless to say, we are quite proud of Jenna. She has very definite Silver and Black color. No tawny at all. Her silver literally glistens in the sun and her pigment (eyes, muzzle) is very black; she has a beautiful face and is a very solid built bitch. Jenna has a great temperament and loves to be told what to do; most of the time she does it! Jenna's "favorite thing" is to steal wet washrags from the bathroom and just play with them. We think it's weird too. Jenna was bred one time, in June of 1990 to a tightly linebred JeeJac male. She produced a couple of very nice male puppies, one, "Bo" who lives in Seattle WA, finished his American Championship at age 14mos, in only two months of just a few shows, handled by his owner. Another, "Follie in OK (Oklahoma), who went Winner's Dog at the Keeshond Club of Dallas Specialty held in 3/92 and has also garnered group placements in the Non-Sporting group at all-breed shows, and finished his championship 4/92. Thanks to "Bo" and "Follie", Jenna now has several Champion grandkids.

Another Lexy son, "Justin", BISS Ch. A*starz Special Effect, ROM , was finished at a young age by his 19 year old owner, Kathy Stekli (now Barker) who handled him to all his wins. Justy's owner pursued her career in the dental field and has since become married, which put Justin's show career on hold for a few years. He started back into the show rings in 1993, shown sparingly. He was out more in 1994 and finished around #20 in the country that year. He is/was always shown by owner/handler. Justin has many nice puppies out around the country that are being shown. Justin went Best in Specialty at the Keeshond Fanciers of Central States in 10/96, from the Veteran class!, owner/handled by Kathy.

One of our favorite Kees, "Ketta" (Ch. Candray Pirouette) was a top contender at KCA's show in 1987. She finished her American Championship before her first birthday. Ketta is very sound, has OFA Excellent hips and a pedigree that is very nice and blends well with our breeding program. Ketta, bred one time, producing four puppies, has one champion daughter, "Chere" (Ch. A*starz Chere Amie for Sylvan) who also won her Futurity class at the 1990 KCA show. Ketta passes on her variety of keeshond temperament, which we dearly love. She is a playful, cat-like Kees and is only 15" tall. We placed Ketta in a loving pet home with some good friends of ours in July 1991 since her show career was over. Ketta now has a family of 5 who dote over her. We acquired a granddaughter of hers in 7/91, "Britney" [Sylvan A*starz Vogue], who is a great compliment in type, temperament and pedigree, to our program. She produced one very lovely litter of 4 puppies 1/94, by "Chipper" (more on him later). One of the males (A*starz Red, Hot & Blu) was pointed at 7 months of age and since, two more have been pointed with their owners handling. These puppies represent 3rd generation A*starz, doubling up on our Lexy, and we are extremely pleased with the results! Because we achieved what we wanted in this breeding of "Britney", she is now placed in a loving pet home with a minister & his wife, now in Annapolis Maryland.

What was to be our future "star", "JD" (Ch. A*starz and Stripes) was killed on I-70 in a freak accident on 2/9/91. He was only 19months of age at the time, but did have one litter of which we acquired one of his two male sons, "Chipper". JD was a Lexy son by Ch. BISS YanKee Parader ROMX. JD was Reserve Winners Dog at the 1990 KCA National Specialty in Kansas City MO and also the Heart of America Keeshond Club's Reserve Winners Dog the same weekend. He won out of 101 keeshond male dogs. JD had three Best of Breed wins. He finished on 11/17/90 with a 5pt major by winning Best of Breed over 28 Keeshonds, including 5 who where Champions already. He had 7 points in Canada, having been there only one weekend. He was/is regarded as one of the best male keeshonds in the country by many respectable keeshond people who have called, written and seen him to tell us so. He had a promising stud and specials career that was ended much too soon. He was my husband's favorite house dog as he raised JD when I was on a work assignment and they formed a strong bond. JD was very special to us in many ways and was a great personal loss. Of "JD's" one litter, 3 have achieved their American Championships at under 2 years of age. Two of those have gone on to become group placing Kees at under 2 years of age.

JD's son "Chipper" (whelped 12/90), who we snatched up when he was 9 weeks old (and had seen videos of when he was 7 weeks - we selected him as our favorite male), is a tightly linebred puppy, linebred on Ch. Windrift's Prophet HOF and our Lexy (Prophet and Lexy are brother/sister from different litters). In April of 1991, Chipper was Best in Sweeps at the Keeshond Club of Delaware Valley's specialty match and also Best in Match the same day. He is a very vibrant and outgoing puppy and, we have plans that he will be our first typesetter as his pedigree should be able to stamp our type. He is light in color and has a full, well-barrelled body. His movement is effortless. He finished his American Championship in just three short months of light showing. He was Best In Sweepstakes at the Heart of America Kees Specialty held in Kansas City MO in 3/92. The same weekend he went Best of Breed over 20+ specials and got a Non-Sporting Group 3 at just 15 months of age. He has just started his specials career, ranking as #15 show Kees in the country in the Fall/92 issue of Keeshond Review magazine. He has the attitude and will continue to be a competitive special. He has been shown by me with only a couple of exceptions. He has several Group placements. He is a darn nice Keeshond and our closest example of perfection. I have had my hands on some of the greatest kees in the country, and Chipper is definitely a quality dog that ranks among the few best examples of a Keeshond. At his first national specialty in Dallas TX 5/93, "Chipper" made the cut from 45 male specials down to 18 by the respected judge Mr. Edmund Sledzik. "Chipper" is the delight of our kennel as he demands attention and loves to play. Chip was best buddies with our old guy, "Kilroy" [deceased 4/97], and use to keep him on his toes and in good shape. Chipper attained the status of ROM [Register of Merit] from the Keeshond Club of America for producing high-quality Champion kids. Chipper was rated as the #2 sire of Champion kees in the country!!!

"Chipper" has sired eight litters; the last was born 1/96 and has at least 12 Champion kids as of this writing. "Smitty" [Ch. BISS BISw Sherwood's Silversmith HOF, ROM] has a Best In Sweepstakes & 2 Specialty Winners Dog wins, one at KCDV & one at HOAKC. Smitty finished in the top keeshond show dog rankings for the years he was campaigned. Two males from this litter have multiple Best of Breed wins from the classes. Smitty also has, for the last several KCA National Specialties, winning several KCA Select Awards. The other, Ch. Sherwood A*starz Chips Ahoy [Skipper] has a respectable show career going with many group placements; always owner/handled by Karen Evasuik of Colorado.

From the 4th litter, "Iceman" (Ch. Dreamwood's Cool Runnings)has along with a Best In Sweepstakes win, multiple Group Placements and is a Group winner. Iceman's sister, Ch. Dreamwood's Wish UponA*starz, also has a Group 3 and both of these have multiple Best of Breed wins from the classes. From he fifth litter, which I co-bred with Dr. Perry Dillon of OK, we kept a bitch, "Lysa" (Ch. Perikees Jardin at A*starz). Her brother, "Jean" (Ch. Perikees Jonglear at A*starz), finished in 6/95 with 2 back to back five point majors & breed over specials. He is now a multiple group placer. A third puppy from this breeding, JouJou is now a Champion, breeder/owner/handled by Perry Dillon.

In California, Harry & Viv Toepfer are having loads of fun owner/handling their Chip son out of Ch. A*starz Dolce of Westcrest. "Ravel" [Ch. A*starz Bolero of Westcrest], is in the top non-sporting dogs in his region! Chip daughter, "Candee", [Ch. BISw A*starz Platinum Plus V Novel] garnered one of 9 KCA Select Awards at the 1997 National Specialty held in MA. A brother to "Candee", "Robbee" [Dan Ch. A*starz Novel Magic Man] was ranked #1 in his group for that country for 1996; Golden Dog of the Year!!! The Wohlfahrt's of Denmark are his owner/handlers. "Robbee's" brother, "Julian" [Ch. A*starz Novel Magic Potion] finished his Championship with his owner, Roseanne Vorce, her first ever conformation Champion! Julian is now having fun doing agility!

"Chipper" has passed on his very cute head, his solid and strong rear and his very enjoyable, clown temperament. He seems to be potent and stamp his puppies. He has been trained & plays from time to time in agility. Chipper is now approaching his 13th birthday and is retired from the show, obedience and agility show rings.

INFO:
We OFA our breeding stock, to be clear of hip dysplasia, stifle problems and elbow disorders. We PHPT test our breeding stock. We test eyes (CERF) for hereditary eye problems that may be coming up in our breed. We do sell all puppies, pet or show, with a written contract to protect their interests and also to spell out the responsibilities of the parties involved. Pet puppies must be spayed or neutered and show puppies are re-evaluated at an older age to be sure they are still progressing as nice examples of the Breed. Show dogs are bred only after testing for genetic problems and under consultation for the best mate for them. They must also be above average Keeshonds. Our males are not at stud to pet quality bitches.

Our puppies are raised in our home, subjected to the noises of a household and are handled from the time they are born with loving care. They are not kennel puppies, which means they are not raised in a kennel situation. Keeshonds are very people-oriented dogs and don't do well raised in a kennel. Puppies that are not raised in the home generally cannot properly adjust to home life and are most likely candidates to develop social and training problems. We keep a limited number of adult Kees and, as a result, some of our best prospects go to good people who love them. Pet or show, the home must fit the puppy.

Our own dogs are a part of our daily lives. They live in the house with us. When we might be gone for a few hours, we will put the Kees in our kennel, which allows them to get fresh air and also potty if they need to. [For photos of our kennel, click here and go to the Environment page.] All the puppies we raise to adulthood, go to Puppy Kindergarten classes at our all breed kennel club (Catoctin Kennel Club) so they are properly socialized and learn manners around people at an early age. Our dogs are not obnoxious and are not allowed to be pests. We must be able to have them live with us, and so we teach them how at an early age and they retain that throughout their lives. If we have a young puppy we are raising, we use the crate training method of housebreaking which has been very successful. This is done until they are about 8months of age. They are with us when we are home so they can learn the "dos and don'ts" of home living. This includes outdoor activities to enforce the "come" command offlead, which is very important for any dog to learn.

I have been "in Kees" since 1979. Prior to that, I raised Shetland Sheepdogs. I have very definite ethical beliefs about breeding and raising purebred dogs. I belong to both National kees clubs (KCA-Keeshond Club of America & TAKS-The American Keeshond Society) and the OVKC (Ohio Valley Keeshond Club; an honorary member), CKC (Capital Keeshond Club). I belong to the all-breed club, Catoctin Kennel Club. I am past-President of TAKS, a Board member and National Publicity Chair and am on the KCA Rescue Committee. I have judged several Keeshond Specialty puppy sweepstakes: Capital Keeshond Club 4/93, 10/94 for the Keeshond Fanciers of Central States in Illinois, a second time for Keeshond Fanciers, Buckeye Keeshond Club Specialty in 12/2008, Pacific Crest Kees Specialty, and Kees Club of Gtr Oklahoma Specialty. It is an honor to have your peers in the breed ask you to judge their promising puppies. I have judged a Pyrenean Shepherd Sweepstakes (puppies and veterans). In my "spare time", I have written articles on Keeshond care, Health related-topics, etc. These articles have been published in international breed magazines. I wrote a seven part series of articles for JabberwocKEES (a now out-of-business kees magazine) on Modern Natural Rearing of Keeshonden. [See MNR Articles]. I also had a regular column, "Just Ask", in the same magazine. I have written for Keezette and Keeshonden Magazines as well.

I am concerned about proper nutrition, over supplementation and over vaccination of our Kees. There are problems, in all breeds, being uncovered and yet we keep injecting and pushing systemics down our dogs and wonder why we have some of the reactions we do see. It is ironic. We give our pets more vaccinations than we do for children. We have Distemper, Hepatitis, Lepto, Parainfluenza, Lyme, Corona, Parvo, Rabies; we give them medication (poison actually) for heartworm prevention, we put concoctions on them for flea/tick control, they run in lawns treated with chemicals, they ingest "THINGS"; even the dog food ingredients are questionable ! .... We have been raising and feeding our dogs a complete natural diet since 1991 and we can see a definite difference in their health and overall condition. We are also getting into herbal medicine and care of our Kees. I could get on my soap box about all the wherefores and whys and go on and on, but that would bore you. If you do get a puppy from us, I will be making suggestions for diet, grooming, care and other topics of Keeshond rearing.

We keep up to date on the latest problems of purebred dogs and therefore strive to produce as healthy and well-adjusted puppies and adults as we can. Whether the pup is to be a pet or a show or obedience prospect, it must be able to live a healthy and comfortable life and it should be a nice example of a Keeshond. Most puppies acquired from pet shops, puppy mills or "backyard breeders" don't even resemble the Keeshond breed of dog when they mature and some end up costing their owners more money in vet bills and special medication because of their inferior genetic makeup, lack of proper diet and lack of attention to their mental needs during early development. Ask yourself if the pet shop or "backyard breeder" will be around when you need help with training and questions about your Kees... will they be there when your dog is 6 months old or a year or beyond? Do these folks even know much about Kees? The answer is: NO !

Because we love the breed, we only breed the best to the best, which includes screening for genetic problems, being careful about temperaments, as well as problems that can be prevented as a result of environmental influences. We have been studying herbal, holistic and natural rearing for several years now. We believe that is the key to the future of purebred animals. I currently feed my Kees a natural diet and use herbs and vitamins. I believe that results in better quality kees because they are not being affected by drugs whenever a problem occurs. Over time, the genes will be positively affected. That means overall good health and a bloodlines that are free from chemically induced problems.

PERFORMANCE KEES:
I have always trained my kees in obedience and have several obedience titled kees. I have produced kees whose owners have trained them and have gone on to significant obedience, flyball, rally and agility titles. I have trained a few of my dogs through the years in agility, but never had the time to devote to titling them. Starting in summer of 2008, I got serious about training in agility. Valerie and I are currently in formal agility training at a wonderful facility with great instructors and hope to go out sometime in fall 2009 for our first NADAC title. Juliette has been in several "puppy sports" classes and is on a waiting list to get into more formal agility training now that she is over 1yr of age.

CLOSING:
Our upcoming litters, whether at A*starz or co-bred with our dog owners, can be found on our Dogs Available page and look for those that are "A*starz Related". These will be out of a LEXY grand & great-grand ... daughters. If you are not near us and you are interested in getting a nice puppy, we can refer you to breeders in your area. We will be getting pick puppies, the best of our best, from these litters to place in the proper situations. These puppies will be available to serious show homes. While there are companion quality puppies in each litter, many of these are reserved well in advance. Its best to make your contacts early. The show puppies will, most likely, be sold into co-ownership situations since these represent some of the best of our breeding blends. [See Dogs Available and look for "A*starz Related" litters.]

If you are close enough to us, I would like to invite you to email us if you would like to come out and meet our gang.

We keep a video tape library of my own dogs and others from around the country. We can show you ancestors and puppy development. We have some cute videos of puppies from one day of age on up.

Bye for now,
A*starz Keeshonden
